Bitcoin at 18, Told with Data

This week's Ledger is another short video, and a bit of a departure. Sound on is better, but it works with sound off.

Bitcoin turns 18 on January 3. We told its story the way we like to tell any story: with the data.

The line you ride is the real daily price, nearly 6,500 days of it, from the public record. The counter at the top tracks the date, the block, the coins mined, and the price as you go. Every date and figure on screen was checked before it went in.

Twenty moments, from the very first block in 2009 to today. A few favorites: 10,000 bitcoin for two pizzas, the first $1,000, and a two word note from an early user that still holds up.

Same tools we use every day, just a different data set.
